I mitigate this by doing my main browsing in Firefox but always doing Facebook in Chrome, in Incognito mode. No cookie cross-pollination.

You should try popping in a recent Ubuntu disk. Older (circa 2008) distributions had trouble with the hardware, but I have a 2006 MacBook Pro that "just works" with 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04. I even Bootcamped the hard disk and dual boot Snow Leo

Clojure. I've been a professional Java programmer for 10 years, and in that time I've dabbled in Haskell, OCaml, Python, and Common Lisp, being happiest with Common Lisp but irritated with the lack of standard modern libraries, the usual co

Blade Runner holds up well EXCEPT...phone booths? That really makes me pause when I've watched it in recent years, no one has a phone. The one thing Blade Runner got wrong, but understandable considering when it came out.

Karmic was such a disaster, and Lucid has been so stable, I like the theme, and I've just gotten Lucid all my machines. I don't see anything here that makes me want to leave a LTS release any time soon.

Hear hear. I looked at Haskell years ago, liked the functional aspects, recursion, lists, etc., but monads for I/O, database, was like hitting a wall. Switched to ocaml, it had enough imperativeness for that, but I got turned off when I got

Like many of you, I have several browsers installed (I'm on a Mac). What I started doing is not log into Facebook on my "main" browser, Firefox, instead logging in with Safari, where I don't do much else. Flipping to Facebook is now a Comma

What I haven't seen answered is can I develop my own apps for my own Kindle for free? A big factor for me losing interest in iPhone development is having to pay 99$ a year to make apps for myself, that expire in a year.

For my personal projects my main consideration was price, I found fsckvps.com. For $12.95 a month I get 512MB memory, 30GB disk and 400GB transfers a month.

I'm thinking it goes something like this. The TI calculators have something called "press-to-test", where a teacher can hit a combination of keys to disable functionality on the calculator. When in this mode, a LED flashes on the calculator
