The program being voluntary does not make it un-creepy to use devices which track what an employee is doing at home. Many people use non-free software and devices which can (and often do) spy on them. It's voluntary, but the spying is

People can repurpose hardware to work with a new backend, but only if the hardware is unlocked.

The right thing to do, then, would be to release an update allowing users to direct the device to another server without having to violate DMCA's anti-circumvention clause.

What makes Nest's actions deplorable is not just that they don't want to support and maintain the product; they are also deliberately destroying pieces of hardware purchased and owned by customers.

My point is Django is not limited by the fact that it was initially conceived as a framework for serving static web pages.

Django has outgrown its humble beginnings. I am building a fairly sophisticated single-page business application using Django along with Django REST Framework, and have yet to run into a situation that made Django feel "crufty."

Is your app data-driven? If yes, have you considered Ember.js? At my startup, we're using Ember + Ember Data backed by an API built with Django + Django Rest Framework, and we couldn't be happier with the conciseness and elegance

We had our sites configured in sites-enabled (ember.conf and django.conf). The LE client copied everything over to new files with encryption enabled, and had the old port 80 Virtualhosts redirect to the port 443 Virtualhosts.

Just the other day, we finished a "dry run" deployment of our new app for small businesses on a Digital Ocean droplet running Debian and Apache (our app is Ember and Django). Let's Encrypt was the final step. We followed the

I use Ember Data along with Ember. Ember Data is my model layer. I should have made that more clear. As for FastBoot, correct me if I'm wrong, but right now it supports rendering static pages for SEO. This is not useful for business ap

I use Django on the server, with Ember on the client-side. Without a concrete model layer in the client that has computed properties and, to a lesser extent, observers, things that were trivial to implement would become much more difficult.

The point is not that no successful startups have been built on a Microsoft stack. But for every one that has, ten have been built on GNU/Linux.

This is the same old strategy of giving students discounts which get them accustomed to proprietary products, then marketing to those same students when they graduate. Now it's just adapted for remotely-hosted software.

You missed my point. The argument made by exolymph was users do not want freedom. I listed projects which are among the best and most popular in their class, in no small part due to their respect of users' freedom.

Exactly. Being pro-freedom does not mean allowing someone to take away the freedoms of others.

The success of GNU/Linux, Postgres, Python, Django, Ruby, Rails, Node, Wordpress, jQuery, Bootstrap, Ember, etc. suggests otherwise.

My point is that Angular does not enforce separation of concerns, making it easier to write unmaintainable code even though you're technically using a framework.
