You and I are talking about completely different things. I don't care about numbers or prospective adoption of a private company's protocol and platform. I'm talking about what I can do now . What I'm already using it f

While I have no specific affinity for ActivityPub as a protocol, I do like a lot of the software being built on it and enjoy being able to follow people on them from my Mastodon account. No one's investing or expecting a return on a mi

It's not too bad as long as you're making something genuinely good. I'm not likely to ever make it big as a musician, but that doesn't mean Ableton or the company behind Reaper are being shady by selling me software.

Some types of company see penalties (or cleanup cost) as a cost of doing business. If they make > $10k to incur $10k in costs, then it works out. It's a faulty way of seeing things, but businesses like that tend to have a fog around

Small towns get worse the further you are from the default. For example, dating here is terrible. All the men are assholes or very deep in the closet. The women are super religious. Think bible quotes as Tinder profiles. And I don't me

Your site has some auto-playing video below the fold and a spinning GIF of a globe from 1995. It's cluttered, noisy, and unclear. There is no point of focus. I can't get as far as figuring out what sets it apart or makes it better

There was no shortage of hype peddlers and ignorant people with authority before the internet. All the internet did was wake more people up to this fact and force them to either start thinking critically or turn into cynics. What changed is

Almost no one would read it. I've done it both ways. People read threads. Blog posts might get traffic if you stumble on an uncontested search term. You might say "just link it on Twitter!" Doesn't work. No one clicks.

There are 50,000+ ways to learn anything, and most won't work for most people. Sometimes I have to read 20 different takes on something before it finally clicks. The fact that there are so many people trying to explain it in their own

There are finger-based counting systems with more than one number per finger. Our average of 10 fingers can handle a lot more than 10 numbers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger-counting

It's possible to do an album on your own, but it takes knowledge of every step in the process. Otherwise you end up with levels all over the place, and people stop listening at the first song that's too much louder than the others

Working with local communities to come up with culture-fit solutions is exactly the right thing to do. Most of the problems people seem to have with Facebook is their past attempts to apply a single concept of decorum to a global population
