My wife (who is a primary school teacher) was saying that a kid in her school was taking photos with her watch. She didn't even know watches could do that and it means they are going to have to rewrite school policies (currently phone

I used to use Coda and Coda 2 - I loved them, and they were true "Mac" apps. But I switched to Sublime and Vim for one reason alone - Cmd-T/Ctrl-P fuzzy file opener. That one feature makes such a difference to me as I switch

No idea, the developer said he was told they were violating the terms of the Spotify API agreement by using non-standard hardware. The only thing I can think of is Spotify had/has one of their own lined up and haven't released it

There was a third party app called Apollo for the Apple Watch. It used the cellular or Wifi connection of the watch to stream directly from the Spotify API. Spotify issued a cease and desist within days. I still have it installed on my ph

How does sales tax work? As a VAT-registered business, if I were buying something for work (such as a laptop) I would pay 20% VAT but then I claim it back at the next quarter - as VAT is actually a tax on profit, not on spending. Does the

Well, Apple say that they don't actually have the data in the first place. For example, with maps, they chop your travel into pieces with no common identifiers. So that way, they get traffic information and can understand which route

Apple have made it a point of differentiation against Google and Facebook in particular. They say that they try to do as much processing on device as possible and when data (for stuff like Maps) is submitted centrally, they anonymise the da

I wouldn't call it a bug. Zoom deliberately engineered their app so it opened a security threat, accessible from any website on your browser, on your local machine without the user's knowledge. Then they reinstalled their softwa

Well - Safari asks you for confirmation. They built the local, exploitable web-server to avoid the confirmation message. Why would they go to that trouble, only to reimplement what they were trying to avoid?

I realised I had a paid account, so I've cancelled that too. And I've also reported them to Apple, after seeing that the ZoomOpener app reinstalls the client - which is completely and utterly unacceptable.

Nearly all the discussion here is about inheritance. I think the main advantage of OOP is message passing - which, if you think about it, is pretty how networking works across the board. (This also makes sense if you think about Smalltalk&

I'd imagine the first step would be a quiet word with HR. If they are in any way good at their job, they will do the work for you, as their job is to protect the company from tribunals.

In the UK, if you use some software internally and it is essential for work, then it has to be accessible or you are breaking discrimination laws. It's even stricter if you take any type of public funding - and I'm pretty sure it&

I agree with your main point - it's the inequity that's the point. In the UK tampons and pads have VAT charged on them (as they count as a luxury ); there is a campaign to remove this and it has been reduced to 5%, but it'

I think that's precisely the point. If the Apple Watch and WatchOS is a device then I expect it to only contain Apple software. If the Apple Watch and WatchOS is a platform then I expect to be able to install 3rd party software on it.
