I'm weirdly impressed by the "switch to metric/imperial" button that updates the article text. It's just so helpful.

Early investors: people who “invested” hundreds of dollars to play. Legitimate business: “we’re a game studio.” Later investors: newer players who see the earlier ones making money.

To be honest I sometimes get better signal from things like cucumbers than I do with technology. Tech has a real issue with biasing towards people who happen to have worked on a particular topic, and as we all know we get bounced to unfamil

This article neglects to understand the massive college-hire pipelines that top companies set up. It's not that companies aren't hiring junior developers, it's that they _only_ hire from their college recruiting pipeline for

I think this misunderstands the hard part of running AWS. You're paying for the software, sure. What you're really paying for is the hundreds of oncall engineers supporting you at all times, and the culture of ensuring that those

The GP is talking about Dual EC (the infamous algorithm in question) and abbreviating it DEC.

An interesting exception to this is that American Sign Language (ASL) counts differently from normal American cultural hand counting. For example, three involves a thumb, whereas the normal US/UK idiom is only fingers.

His direct involvement in an atrocity-filled period of US foreign policy is what gets him called a war criminal, not his pithy quotes.

As someone who has interviewed and hired a lot of recent CS grads I can confirm they are way less weird than the fine people I met at the beginning of my career.

I’m quite sure they could, but mostly just because they could simply walk into your house and tamper with the hardware. You don’t need a fancy zero day when you’re the government.

This makes sense, but I believe it’s incorrect. Overtraining is a fairly serious condition that can take months to recover from, not generic over-exertion of a specific muscle group that requires days of rest.

I don’t know anyone at Amazon who would hire someone they were sure they’d fire. I’ve never heard of it. It’d honestly even be sort of difficult, given the hiring process and the involvement of a bar raiser (veto vote) on the hiring committ

I think you’re incorrect about a few things. First, tolerance to substances is more physiological than simply learning to hide it. Second, consider one drink an hour ten eight hours. You’d barely be inebriated. It wouldn’t be particularly

I found myself nodding along with your comment, having worked in a massive company myself. A company the size of Google is simply not a single entity, so it isn’t surprising for one division to make a “private mode” that another division do

It feels like home because of the key of the song, not the instrument. Sometimes the guitar is tuned to play a song where the key matches the lowest string, but many songs are of course played in other keys.

This post leaves out a key difference between something like RSA and EC, which is that EC doesn’t actually provide an encryption function. You end up using an integrated encryption scheme. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki

What I think is interesting is that I suspect they’ll eagerly license this to competitor stores. A palm reader does not turn your local Safeway into Amazon Go, and they know that. Having a slice of every point of sale could be huge; imagine
