so then we rely on linux solutions instead? I've seen lots of control systems running linux and windows, personally I'd rather keep a mix of the two. Something about eggs and baskets.

diesel might be a bit more efficient, but produces more nitrogen dioxide (and other oxides) which are harmful to humans and the environment, which is why they are being banned in some parts of europe.

especially when many of the devices have to be returned to manufacturer for the update... including a whole bunch of RTUs that run electrical transmission/distribution systems.

Obviously there is going to be an increased amount of solar and wind coming online in the near future, and I don't think that anyone running a power system network at the distribution or transmission level is going to dispute that. Ho
