I don't like pre-interview surveys much. I tend to fill them out biasing against myself which tends to be a disservice to myself and to the employers. To use an example. Lets say I'm considered an expert in a closed pretzel making communi

I applied for YC W'09 w/ a software service to add grammar, style, and spell checking to web apps. It wasn't selected. No big deal. I went ahead with full scale development anyways. I have an early beta now and am still working to achie

One thing I liked about the military is that we were paid based on time in grade and rank. I at least knew I wasn't being cheated out of something someone else was getting.

Ah Apex Designs, I remember when they published this game on the Gameboy Advance. Except they ran into issues with their publisher/distributor. I was living in Europe and was able to buy it via mail order. Its a really fun game with great

I agree with this. I use third party libraries when its not inconvenient to do so. All the complexity and the kitchen sink that comes with a lot of stuff drives me crazy. For example, when I try to use any Java library from Apache I inev

I agree with this. There should be no place for pains in the asses, no matter how smart they think they are. I remember when I was interviewing (seems so long ago), I got to interview with one of these kinds of guys. I felt so belittled

I grew up in Detroit (suburbs) and plan to spend a little time there between relocating. My cousin opened a restaurant by the old Tiger stadium and he is doing well. He DJs too and loves the Detroit scene. It has its own culture. Between

Congrats on making it this far. Maybe we should start a meetup or support group for hackers who quit their jobs to find their entrepreneurial selves. I just had my one year anniversary six days ago. Oh how time flies. I left the military

I didn't read the article but I'll be honest... I'm really thankful for my education. I taught myself programming when I was young and I thought I knew everything when I went to college. I was thankfully proved wrong. College forced me t

My plan: 1. Attack a hard problem. 2. ... 3. Profit! Once I refine and prove this technology, I expect it will open the doors to bigger things like integration with hosted platforms that want to differentiate themselves.

I missed the equity bit when I looked at the post. My main point is many of us see through inflated titles and some (myself included) perceive them negatively.
