For the case of RKE, which I mentioned, I think they do it to have the cluster config available, but no idea why they use a configmap rather than a secret ( https://github.com/rancher/rke/issues/1024 is the

From having worked in UK FS in the past this reminds me of a more modern version of how PKI key signing ceremonies used to happen :) It's an interesting contrast with how carefully root CA keys are handled in this kind of setup, compar

Where I see it is in the interactive installer for Ubuntu server, there's a screen that asks if you want to install SSH on the host and then it asks if you want to import keys from GH. You pass it a GH user name and it lists the keys t

The problem I've found, with relying on online search based knowledge, is the level of bitrot that affects on-line resources. My technique to combat that has been combining my own notes and making use of Pocket to have copies of resour

The "interesting" piece with this default is whether it triggers further cross-defaults. A couple of articles I read suggested that if Evergrande defaults on one bond it can trigger instant defaults on others.

So AFAIK Tether has ~$30b of commercial paper ( https://tether.to/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/tether_assuranc... ) which would make it one of the larger commercial paper operators in the US market if it ope

My guess is the opposite :) Chinese bonds have nice high yields and there's a load of money from western companies looking for yield. Until recently they were considered (by most people) to be a relatively safe bet, so why wouldn

I don't think Tether is in purely Evergrande bonds, but I do think Tether has a load of Chinese bonds/commercial paper, and if an Evergrande default causes a general reduction in the value of those, Tether will be in a very stic

AFAIK the challenge is that Evergrande and its bond holders don't make public statements about the repayments, so it's unclear whether they've been made or not. However in this case it seems that a bondholder has explicitly s

yep that's kind of my point :) There's a huge number of IPOs/public companies with very high valuations and low profitability. The YC companies are just an example of that, which is relevant to the story at hand.
