Because you can pick it up and go more than 3ft away and put it back down when you're done without futzing with "fit the wire in the hole" again.

But not from 10 feet away like these ones. Current signs are legible 50 feet or further - and more important legible while you're still in your car.

Bad signs. Fatal flaw: the red / green bars have no context because the the hours & days text is unreadable except up close and hour/days change from sign to sign. EDIT: also impossible to read when driving / stopping by

It's not the harmful stereotypes, it's the mundane. Is anyone else waiting for a woman to point out the obvious stereotype of women (and then some men) writing tons of this stuff at similar points of mainstream integration in simi

AIR?? Really? Can you provide any stats to support that? I'm not against AIR. On the contrary, I had high hopes that it would become the STANDARD for cross-platform desktop deployment. In a mobile-first world, desktop apps are lowest p

You're right, Flash wasn't 10 years ahead of its time. It's far more: Tokyo Plastic's Drum Machine: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/drum ... from 2003 (or earlier?): http://board.fl

Up through AS3 Flash was fantastic. We saw some of the most amazing animations and multimedia up through that era, including H.264 video players. But Flex. OMG Flex. Trying to bend 180° to serve developers was never going to work. After tha

Not only that, Flash was a designers tool. Creative people easily understood the video-like interface and could make amazing stuff quickly without first learning up to 8 different code-based languages. Flash was great after Macromedia. It t

I understand what you're asking for, but when available those settings are usually set by the user, not the webpage. Customization is a very, very slippery slope: can the web page only customize the slider? What about the tab? Why not

The reason I said only light / dark is that it's easy for users to understand. Remember: these guys are asking to change the UI of the browser on a per web page basis. That kind of customization doesn't help anyone.

You think users want the browser window scroll to change color / shape / width per web page ? Wouldn't that get confusing?

A pro designer isn't going to ask for any of those things (but bad clients will). There's no reason to confuse users with unique UI designs per page . That's just bad UX.

I think the simple solution is adding a "light/dark" setting for browsers. We certainly don't need every color of the rainbow (omg gross), but this simple option could be universal and solve most requests.

That's unlikely. Music has historically been fractured: - radio stations only playing certain genres - stores only carrying certain labels, hits - releases only on vinyl or cassette, but not CD - available on CD, but not digital downlo

A down arrow can mean "I disagree" as well as "this is negative" but in practice the latter is applied (content starts to fade out, etc). Perhaps instead of a down arrow the icon is a circle with a slash?

This has little to do with rent control; It's all about development costs. New units get built with mortgage rates that are far above the standard rental rates. Buyers can't rent units significantly below their cost so they hit th
