Alright, all you brave people who run databases in docker: where do you store the actual data? - Host mounts? So what happens when a container gets rescheduled to another node? - Docker volumes? What happens when a container gets reschedule

And this is what killed the Linux desktop. 99% of the population does NOT want to try a gazillion desktops (of which the installation is error prone), just to find out what 'works best for you'.

Not to mention it's a sobering view into the world of science. Disappointing that nobody thought of this correlation for tens of years.

Well said. Just look at conservative estimates of the number of psychopaths and sociopaths (2%) still gives you 140 million people that lie and cheat because they have no conscience and want to manipulate people. Add some plain greed on top

The real scary problem : if you have more money, you 'll have a better chance of winning. This goes against the principle that all men are equal and should be treated equally by the law.

Can the Ruby people please stop blogging about Elixir and explain things relative to Ruby? There are way too many 'Elixir-for-Ruby-programmers' tutorials on the net already. Elixir is pretty great and enthusiasm is good but I feel

Even on public repo it makes sense to keep commits small enough in case you need to do a bisect later on.

I paid €378 last month. It was done in an hour. It was an 2013 MBA. They replaced the battery for free. Don't have Applecare.

Wherever I went, I have seen the war between developers and sysadmins being fought. In enterprise the sysadmins have the upper hand, in frontend, mobile, SMB the developers. Developers don't have the burden of maintaining and upgradin

What is your experience with doing schema upgrades across many databases? Is it usually possible to break up schema changes in small pieces, so that it works across multiple versions of your software?

I like Elixir and am using it but the large amount of Ruby references is starting to annoy me. I've never used Ruby so all those comparisons add no value for my learning it. But I do like the language and the environment.

NASA is not a special case. What about medical equipment, weapons , oil industry, stock trading, I bet other people here can think of more examples.

The prices charged for extended support are high but not astronomical and I don't think you answered the question on NASA.

I'm from Amsterdam, lived in the US recently for 2 years (Atlanta). Salaries are lower in the EU, taxes are higher, rents are lower. On the other hand I found many things to be more expensive in the US : health care, car insurance, ed

I do not get why giving each customer his own database would be so costly. Each postgresql instance can handle many smaller databases. Are shared buffers allocated per database?

I have similar experiences. For a customer I need to use O365, but if you don't need it for some features it really feels backwards. Spreadsheets that kill your session after very short idle times, using multiple accounts gets confused
