Rails + Postgres + Heroku. I may be living a decade in the past, but all the bugs are worked out and the development speed is extremely good.

I went through SICP a few years after finishing my computer science degree and enjoyed it greatly. It was a great experience and I think made me quite a bit better developer. I also became a huge fan of lisp which I think is one of the side

Alberta has teachers top out at around 100K CAD. The Average is around 80k. I suspect the average teacher salary is similar to an average software developer salary here. The data I can find actually shows the average teacher salary higher.

I know a rep who leases freezer space from our local big chain grocery store and is responsible for that area. Ive heard of quality issues from this specific ice cream before, and it always reminded me of getting poor quality items from non

I learned recently that some older cars also had this feature. A 1992 mazda 929 had a solar sunroof option to power some fans. Quite a few early 2000s Audis had this as an option as well.

Has much thought been put into driving in poor road conditions? It seems in the cities self driving cars are pretty much ready, but I wonder about how they will be in bad snow/ice/hail/wind conditions. Humans are pretty bad a

Working remote at a company with good culture, 0 commute, no children, and minimal housing upkeep. At 32yo I have never had more free time in my life. I spend very significant amounts of time in the gym (which I love), and in the outdoors.

I have inherited many rails codebases and do not share this experience. I have found that often teams end up not using typical conventions and start re-inventing things well before it was necessary. To be fair, I usually seem to find myself

With the exception of working at a University with no coverage, everywhere I have worked (before I started consulting) provided dental coverage. However it was often $1500-2000 per year max which is very easy to use up.

It depends. In Alberta they have a "Fee guide" which is what people with insurance will get reimbursed for. Some dentists follow the guide, some do not. It's frustrating because they do not like to tell you the price until it

Ive worked with 100s of developers, and 2 stand out. One was around 60 and the other was early 20s. The one who was around 60 would think through problems at a much deeper level then the entire team. I remember one instance where most of th

In University I worked for a professor translating FORTRAN77 code to C. Tools existed for this, but did not produce human readable C code. There is still a ton of Fortran code in academia.
