The comments in here (and the article title) make it sound like it’s just NPR involved. Important to note that it’s not NPR per-se, but a group including NPR.

The two banks I’ve checked only allow you to use your mobile phone number or email address as your PayID (CBA and ING). When paying somebody, when you enter a recipient’s PayID, the bank confirms by showing the recipient account holder name

My 2 cents: 1. Charge more than 99c. Double the price and your sales will likely drop by less than half, making it profitable to do so. 2. If you’re going to half-ass the port to Android, why even bother? It will do more damage than it’s wo

Apple only report to you the remaining 70%, so the 800k is after the 30% is deducted. Edit: It seems the $800k includes Apple's cut. As an app developer myself, even considering that amount is torturing yourself. Apple _only_ report th

If you want to be super paranoid about it, cell providers and banks know your whereabouts most of the time also. iOS at least gives you the option to deny apps access to the photo library, to prevent this from being available. Perhaps an ad

Maybe there needs to be an extra level of compliance for apps that are straight-up. (Like PCI compliance) Opt-in, but you get a special badge on your App Store listing.

This is pretty cool. My "project that doesn't make me money" is https://transitfeeds.com Currently it archives a ton of static schedule data, and some basic GTFS-realtime archiving stuff. My longer-term goal is to

Agreed about private companies and collecting of data, but in the case of Apple, none of your HealthKit data is transmitted (it's all stored on your iPhone and/or Apple Watch). Any app that reads/writes HealthKit data is requ

What do you think is a fair price, given what you get from Apple for that 30%? I'd be more than happy for it to be 0%, but you do get a few things for that cut: * Credit card processing * Handling refunds (you need to do this manually

This is not true. Many app developers use the affiliate program from their app's web site to claw back some of the 30% commission. Minimise the house take, so to speak.
