I know situation fairly well, my wife works in marine research. Organization with 150 people has 10 HR persons. There are no money to fund research, everything went into fancy office. McDonalds stuff are paid better than lab assistants...

Author basically has a hobby (research), which costs him lot of time. It is like a manager who can not code because of his job. There are two ways: * step down from administrator/teaching role and become full time researcher with all i

Imagine you like something and have 40 hours implement it. Now spread those hours over one week, or over several months. Second cas will be much better because people will contribute ideas, you spend some time thinking about this task outs

SQLIte mostly runs on slow CPU devices with relative fast SSDs. Reads are parallel, but writes are single threaded, so there is no advantage from multi core ARM CPUs.

I think people under-estimate incremental improvements a lot. My tai-chi teacher told me that eastern culture is more about "putting one sheet of paper on another", there is slow and steady improvement. Western is much more about

But I do not care that some guy refused to approve your name or whatever. I do care, that you are shaming people you do not like on public forum. It is pretty much same behavior as Linus and other a*holes in OS community. Congrats on top co

Still not cool. Proper way is to reference commits and bugs. Just imagine someone Google your name and first link is to this comment: XY attacked me....

I find it (mo/i)ronic that you reference people with full name "XYZ attacked me", only for verification of course, but you forgot to include your own name.

If it is so bad, do not use it! One could always pay $1000/hour and get his software from someone with correct attitude, sex, race and age. If you pay $0 do not complain!

It is simple: science does not pay off. I have a friend, respected marine researcher. He is 50-something and he finally got permanent job, only problem is that he has to move across Europe and learn new language. He was very upset, when I

How do you handle multiple versions of the same jar files? Line numbers could be easily different across multiple versions. I have three suggestions: 1) each stack frame has method name. That could be used to filter out obvious errors. 2)

This is not layout manager, but docker. "Ultimate Layout Manager" is something like Mig Layout for Swing.

If long todo lists make you nervous, you have obviously never been under whip of scrum master around crunch time: 2 hours stand-ups, pushing to accept tasks, ignoring estimates... Call it 'kanban' if you wish, probably much better

Learn something about project management. Just the fact you think agile and scrum are better than TODO lists is huge redflag. Try to interact more with customers. Are they happy with our work? Try to relax little bit and look at it from fun

I wish you would strip out the "gun" part. It is a nice normal CNC machine, but such labeling make it instantly illegal in most countries.

That is just BS. Power companies are expected to absorb all negative externalities, such as keeping 1:1 power plant on hot standby, or adding more power lines to handle peaks. They have a right to complain! What I find way more disturbing
