Another curious behavior here is: LLMs are eager to use information available to them, even when it's completely irrelevant.

It's Beej from the guides! I really appreciated the perspective you put forward here: https://beej.us/guide/bglcs/html/split/use-of-ai.html#ai-and... .

I'm a fan of the eye-candy. Truly feels like a glimpse of the future is terms of aesthetics. I just wish they hadn't thrown UX principles away.

The best thing to have happened to nvim in recent history is mini.nvim. It's a collection of plugins by echasnovski which satisfies many of your needs in a very consistent, very well documented way. With nvim 0.12 (nightly) I've s

Honking is common across Brazil but not in the capital Brasília. Signs at some entrances of city read "Dear visitors, in Brasília we avoid honking".

I had some fountain pens over the years, but I was never able to truly enjoy them or recommend them to anyone. I didn't find them practical as daily writing tools and or too fun as a hobby. I really dislike the feeling that you need to

Not completely sure how your reply relates to my comment. I was just mentioning the competition is on Heuristics which is different from what you find on CF or most coding competitions. About the performance of AI on competitions, I agree w

All you said is true. Keep in mind this is the "Heuristics" competition instead of the "Algorithms" one. Instead of the more traditional Leetcode-like problems, it's things like optimizing scheduling/clustering

I think equally impressive is the performance of the OpenAI team at the "AtCoder World Tour Finals 2025" a couple of days ago. There were 12 human participants and only one did better than OpenAI. Not sure there is a good writeup

Sivers' list has introduced me to many great books. I can recommend "Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives - by David Eagleman" which is the fourth book on the page you linked.

The random moment we picked in time is not necessarily an event. The expected time between the event to your left and the one to your right (they're consecutive) is 20 minutes.

I really like the Poisson Distribution. A very interesting question I've come across once is: A given event happens at a rate of every 10 minutes on average. We can see that: - The expected length of the interval between events is 10 m

A few years ago I saw a talk at a Math conference about some mathematical models for how the shapes of snowflakes come to be. I don't recall the details, but I believe one of them was even able to generate non-hexagonal snowflakes whic

Traveling to the US recently, I was surprised to see Claude ads around the city/in the airport. It seems like they're investing on marketing there. In my country I've never seen anyone mention them at all.

It's more of a LaTeX alternative, which also happens to have an official web app. The engine itself is open source, so you can always just install it and compile your documents on the command line.

If we're gonna go that route, you can just put a single pip on a corner and derive all of the other positions from that.
