I haven't visited Slashdot for a long while either; I recall it being good for throwing in some fun "science" stuff in addition to the tech.

There's a big difference between "storage" and "processing". But it's true, Google stores plenty of data too.

My 350GB of music is backed up on Backblaze (a wonderful service), but seeing those visualizations reminded me of the environmental impact of my digital packratting. That's a sizable data center keeping my data happy and backed up.

Damn shame. I used to hotlink during testing when I was too lazy to download the actual JS and host it. It was a nice way to build wicked fast little sites.

The "right thing" is clearly to take the (wealthy, exploitive, capitalist) bank's money and give it to a charity. Not roll over on it.

It's not particularly well written, and in the end he gives the money back to the bank. Hardly a "noble" result (he could have given it to a charity). Now he's got the audacity to shamelessly plug his crap and tip jar. Lame.

I'll give the trial a shot. It really does look amazing, and I really am not opposed to paying something for it, it just seems to me (broke-ass student) a bit much. Great way to solve a problem, however, even if most people don't know they

Bullshit. Yet another fluff piece attempting to keep the American Dream alive. Even the briefest encounter with demographic statistics shows that poor stay poor, rich stay rich. In fact, in just today's Globe and Mail (Canada): http://www.

All I learned is that Google just made an ad for their core services (Chrome, Docs, etc), and disguised it in an informational online book.

I don't think there is any coherent point that the users want. Some want V3 because they don't like change, others want unicorns, others want to have fun burning Digg to the ground. I'd love to see it succeed, but I seriously doubt it will.

Somehow Kevin Rose has become the Web's babysitter. Product launches are hard, and having revolting factions of whiny Diggers has got to make it nearly impossible.

I love Calvin and Hobbes but Watterson famously does not like these sorts of derivative works. Still, awesome service. Service appears to be struggling to stay up.
