I don't do it to make people think I'm doing a good job, I'm doing it because it makes me do a better job. Some people actually want to do a good job, not just do the minimal effort they can get away with.

I'm not generally for formalized development process but i love this. I have for a long time argued that a great way to do anything is to think how you would give a talk about your work. If you plan on giving a lecture about your work,

the difference is that in windows if two applications load the same DLLs they don not just share code, they also share state and data. If a DLL has a global variable, it can be accessed by both applications. This means that you can use DLLs

Volatile is "observable" and all observable behaviour is order dependent. (so for instance a volatile and printef can not be reorderd, because both are obeservable). Howqever this is ONLY in a single threaded context. This is why

Because Windows lets a process link to a library that has already been initialized by another process, so the process cant share its mutex during initialization, becaus the initialization has allready happend. volotile gives you some decire

C11 did add _Atomic, BUT, they are not more portable than using volatile. In C11 any type of any size can have an atomic qualifyer. That means you can have a 50 byte struct that is an atomic. No hardware has a 50 byte atomic instruction so

No its not. All Objective C objects can be assessed using a C API. This C api is very hard to use, so tecnically its nicer C code wrapping a bad C API.

We have considered parsing both headers and documentation in order to make the generated API prettier. This is the first release, so we want to see if there is interest, but yes there are lots of things we could do to expand the project (Au

How many Android devices are in service in the world? Whats the total power consumption of all Android devices? Shaving just 1% is probably a couple of coalfired power plants worth of CO2.

This way you dont have to wrap by hand, and any time Apple releases a new API or makes a change you push a button and have a new wraper. Writing a wrapper also requires someone who knows Objective C. There are obviously things that could be

Storing pointers unaligned and using memcpy to extract them to an aligned pointer, can be a performance gain, if it means less padding taking up valuable cache space.

There are always uses for every feature, thats how you end up with C++. The question is if it is worth the implementation burden, the complexity, making the language harder to learn and read, and the potential intentional and unintentional

As a member of the WG14 I can tell you that _Generic does cause a fair bit of issues and complications in the language, and as a user of C i think _Generic is bad, because it mostly useful for confusing users about what code does so, Yes C

Historically, the working class movement, did see work as honourable, and the capital as less so, because they lived of the work of others. There was a lot of pride associated with doing a good job and to provide for your family.

Well, its broken in the sense that one part of the standard describes some functionality, and then an other part of the standard, says "Oh you can ignore that."

It is a feature that sounds like it promises to make something compile time but it doesn't. At the same time it has a bunch of limitations, that in no way reflects what modern compilers can do. Plenty of times you can write an expressi

Technically there is no "compile time" in C. Any part of the program can be computed at compile time or at runtime. Its entirely up the the implementation. The AS-IF rule in the C standard lets implementations do whatever they wan

I think, most designers of languages want abstractions, convenience, and clevernes. So for people who don't want that we have to cling on to C since there aren't other options ;-)

Funny that you would bring up survivor bias. I tend to think the oposit. If C is so bad, why does only C programs survive? Is issues are more visible, because it is so success full, and so much of the world uses C. One thing i have consider
