Clearly this is a fallacy of false equivalence (and follows the general pattern of “ whataboutism ” which, if I remember correctly, goes all the way back to the USSR goading the USA about lynchings and protests against attempts at integrati

To be honest, I can see where your idea of the app is coming from... but what’s the point? Wouldn’t it be just yet another piece of self-aggrandising performance art in this already totally narcissistic age? One writes to leave one’s mark.

I attended a school where calligraphy was still a major aspect and we were taught to use fountain pens. You know how in the Harry Potter series there’s all that very real-feeling ‘tradition’ about how a wand chooses its master? That feels r

I do not exempt those who make such statements just because they have authority. If anything, they should know better. I started off along much the same path (I bought and read Neural Networks: A Comprehensive Foundation (1994) by Simon H

As I see it, there’s a vast cognitive chasm between the cosmic event horizon and the event horizon of a black hole, as the former preserves “continuity of locality” (my term) whereas the latter does not. Basically the the former is only an

There’s plenty of ‘exploring’ going on. The famous “ER = EPR hypotheis” suggests that entangled particles are opposite ends of a wormhole.

I think the prevailing notion is another, namely that an electrically charged black hole would quickly neutralise by preferentially attracting particles of opposite charge.

True, but from the point of view of an observer at infinity, the baryon falls and comes to a halt, while the event horizon of the black hole expands and encompasses it (or would, if you could measure the diameter of the black hole with suff

It’s a key quote, but it’s not necessarily true, to be perfectly honest. There’s a lot of bluster, false equivalences, and hyperbole going around at the moment, and this seems to be a prime example of that. From where does the analogy flow?
