This guy appears to misunderstand the purpose of affirmative action / positive discrimination. It's not to make tokens out of people, but to try to remove systemic bias against groups underrepresented in a society or subculture - case in po

"Imagine also that there are two types of BTC users: Jews [...] and Aryans" What is this Nazi-era shit doing here. It's hard to take the article at all seriously when the author frames it in terms like this.

Well I suppose persecution by one's cellphone carrier is better than by race or religion. I enjoyed your outstanding level of hyperbole though.

"have a comment thread full of white knights" You're seriously suggesting that anyone here who decries the rude behaviour described in the blog post, is doing so just to impress the protagonist of this drama with their chivalry? What an abs

Doing what? Being forced to pay taxes? That happens in every country and is surely a more general complaint, if it is indeed one at all.

If I recall correctly, it used to be that a Windows license entitled the user to instead downgrade to any previous Windows version, if they so desired. I wonder if this is still the case with Windows 8.

Discouraging or banning ownership seems to work well in many countries. It's a shame that so many citizens of the US feel intimately tied to these violent objects, and for such archaic reasons.

I think it's inaccurate to suggest Linus is universally applauded for his rude behaviour. The last public outburst that caught wider attention than the LKML seemed to quite divide programmers in terms of its appropriateness. Personally, I f

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a strong undercurrent of misogyny involved here, motivating their incivility and rudeness.

Perhaps, but comments like "I cannot even make this stuff up" and "eyes bleeding!" are not constructive criticism, just pointless mockery.

The NHS is not perfect (as some of your tales of woe cherry-picked from right-wing newspapers suggest), but its core mission is essentially that of compassion and fairness: to provide medical care to each member of the population regardless

I don't think one could conceive a metaphor more archetypal of the US than "done at the point of a gun" -- but what do you mean by that, in terms of the UK health system?

Regarding his fifth point, that rings very true and not just in open source, but many male-dominated fields. It's almost cliché to see a bunch of guys complaining to each other about the lack of female participants in one breath, and cracki

You speak as if death is not an inevitable destination. You're not immortal, you know. You can't stave off your demise forever. One day your existence will end and your consciousness will be permanently obliterated. With that in mind, do yo

When I read things like this, it makes me so glad I live in the UK and don't have to endure any of this free market bullshit when it comes to health. The system you describe is just so chillingly brutal and callous.
