Dependency hell was a thing for sure. I had at the time made a script to easily install rpm's at with a shell script that was searching the mirrors. It didn't handle dependencies but would show what was missing. But so many years

There isn't enough info for how the compromise happened and it may not be related to cpanel at all. What I find interesting is in 2017 godaddy bought Sucuri which monitors and cleans up malware, not sure if they still own it - but com

Well cpanel is written in perl, and certainly hard to read but overall I would say cpanel is probably one of the more secure control panels. This hacking, sounds like the systems were root compromised and unlikely to be related to cpanel. I

There seem to be three incidents and all after 2020. But FTP - unless godaddy enforced TLS connections on that - which back in 2016 probably not because it would have been a support burden this could has easily have been password sniffed.

In the past registers could do domain tasting - register and cancel in 5 days with out payment. I'm not accredited registrar and haven't been in the domain space for a while so this was back in 2010-2012 but it certainly used to b

Ok I get it, still seems a bit dumb. DO for example still needs to replace failed components (ssd drives which have the highest failure rate can expect 1 - 3% failure rate per year on the low end), pay datacenter fees, likely power increase

Can anyone enlighten me on this because cloudflare seems to report similar high margins with no profits. What are these high margin numbers both DO and CF report? They both report high margins but then do not make any money. Are these margi

I see that too and wonder if this will lead to an over sold stock and a similar Microsoft lost decade which may be a few years in. Google overall is very profitable and just needs 2-3 wins over the next few years and they have the cash to d

This is certainly the goal of Akamai as that is their core business. Linode though targeted the lower and and success stories are much rarer on that end. For every discord you have 100,000+ new clients. Linode was doing fine with this struc

By law Linode is supposed to turn off and wait for a counter claim. Most companies forward and wait forward. Hetzner is not fast to react on abuse and are quite large.

I have nothing much to add except that Akamai paid 900 million for linode, so 200m was a low guess. But linode was debt free and profitable unlike their competitors.

Who can dumb this down for me. Cloudflare give a number for gross profit with margins and operating loss. So what gives if they are not making money what do the numbers mean for profit and how is it useful in their reporting?

There are people who are great at coding. There are people who are great at documentation. They are not always the same. Working with open source software - I find the ones who work on documentation tend to not be adding the code.
