Modern encyclicals aren't written in Latin anymore. They're drafted in Italian and the title is the Latin translation of the incipit. Indeed, the beginning of the Italian text is: "La magnifica umanità creata da Dio si trova

I have only skimmed it, will definitely read carefully as soon as I have time. I will say, as an atheist, that regarding technology the Vatican has some of the best takes of any institution/government I have ever seen.

Jira is the ultimate example of the concept of alienation. If Marx knew about Atlassian the Grundrisse would have been insanely lit.

I am obviously paraphrasing, but the general idea is that trying to synthesize style from a codebase into e.g. a markdown guide generally doesn't work very well. What achieves style transfer is providing the model with a lot of example

I think it's downstream of "you can't optimize for two different objectives". If you only have functional requirements, then in effect you're doing some form of program synthesis, and RL can optimize that very hard.

100%. I use AI more than most and always with frontier models from OpenAI/Anthropic, but most of the AI features I see around are complete slop. Like why would I ever want to interact with slow, unresponsive JS popups and the cheapest

Great to see Veronica at the top of HN. She's a great creator, highly recommend her content.

It's hard to find the kind of person who likes both, but the ultimate CLI enabler is AI. Ironically, since the rise of actually useful agents I've been using less web and GUI stuff and more CLI. git, ssh, vim, tmux, psql, sqlite3,

Yeah, but applied to counters it would be the symmetric difference between multisets, which doesn't have a natural definition. If I understood the proposal they'd be defining it as absolute value of the difference of the counts, w

Same here, Windows 2000 is peak UI, I never liked the Frutiger Aero aesthetics. My only criticism is that it was, in a sense, too successful and elements like the taskbar and start menu got ossified and the design stagnated. Apple's

I agree with this. I'm writing this message even though I don't have much to add because it's often the case on HN that criticism is vocal and appreciation is silent and I'd like to balance out the sentiment. Anthropic h

It's behind Opus 4.7 in SWE-Bench Pro, if you care about that kind of thing. It seems on-trend, even though benchmarks are less and less meaningful for the stuff we expect from models now. Will be interesting to try.

The article is more about a certain style of "modern" games, which is an interesting strand but does not exhaust the category: classic games (chess, go, shogi, backgammon), card games (bridge, poker), TCGs (magic the gathering, he

Basically the rules are that you can use AI, but you take full responsibility for your commits and code must satisfy the license. That's... refreshingly normal? Surely something most people acting in good faith can get behind.

I don't think the split is along seniority lines. Many juniors have adopted LLMs even faster. In many quarters it has also become a kind of political issue where "all the people I hate love LLMs so I must hate them."
