AFAIK Marshal is pretty safe, it's not the most safe or reliable data transport BUT it is on everyone's machine who has Ruby, on all versions. I'd much rather be using JSON but I was told Marshal or plaintext...I'll go with Marshal. :/

We could try more than one layer. At the time we wrote it (last summer) the Bundler guys wanted to just start with one layer.

I'd love to have git be a part of the solution here, really, any other solution would be awesome. Hit me up in #rubygems on IRC or email me (nick [at] quaran.to) and we can talk about it :)

Yeah, I'm undecided yet as to which is best. My colleagues seem to be promoting keeping the parens in. Typically when we try stuff like this I like to push it to the max to see how it feels, then scale back.

How is that not the case for any language? (This also might be a bad example, but it was based off of code I wrote)

Installed on OSX, messing with it. Initial impressions: * Leans more towards Mercurial than Git * No man pages :( * Couldn't get the fancy web server thing running (`vv serve`, and it failboated on some config warning that I'm not sure how

I think this same argument goes for any kind of SaaS. Hopefully with us we provide enough value over rolling your own Redis monitoring/data analysis that you won't need to.

Hey Redis folks, if you haven't played with http://radishapp.com/ yet I'd love to hear your feedback on it. Also, go Postgres! Woot!

RubyGems doesn't follow SemVer, it follows Ruby's versioning system. :( (offtopic) Also, I too got bit by the redis-rb changes. They also broke apis from 2.1 => 2.2 as well. SemVer isn't hard, I don't understand why people can't follow

Wow, this video does it justice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG_rOWDPCeI I love the zoom on the clock here...I bet this could translate to touch devices really easily. First to implement this in Protovis ( http://vis.stanford.edu/proto

I'm working on a technical walkthrough that goes in depth on this...basically the daemon connects to your Redis instance, generates summaries of data, and spits it out to Radish over HTTPS. The daemon works on Linux (we've tried Gentoo, RHE

Rosetta Code is awesome. One of my good friends ( http://rosettacode.org/wiki/User:Mwn3d ) has helped maintain it for a while, and the main guy behind it (shortcircuit: http://rosettacode.org/wiki/User:Short_Circuit ) is a great, helpful g

Fixed, it's now "beta" list. If you haven't yet, check out Prefinery. They've been making this process pretty fluid. http://prefinery.com

Hey there, I've been working on Radish for a while now. While using Redis, I had no idea how to visualize what was going on inside of it, and this app is the culmination of those ideas. If you're interested in trying it out, sign up! Obviou

It wasn't really meant to be a comparison, just sharing our practices as we normally do. I used screen before hand, and tmux just feels nicer. Having vertical splits is a HUGE win, especially for a big monitor. We're planning on follow up p
