For those that aren't cryptocurrency enthusiasts it literally doesn't matter. As long as bitcoin and ethereum mining remains they'll always have something they disagree with to point at. Unlike enthusiasts they don't see

Fundimental supply issues aren't going to be solved by releasing a mining variant and artificially limiting a gaming variant. At the end of the day this is still a supply and demand problem. I bet that we'll still see 3060s being

Algorithms that are still protifable mine on GPUs were designed with ASIC resiliency in mind - they use memory hard algorithms. This makes the problem of designing specialised mining cards equivalent to designing fast and efficient DRAM, an

ASICs requite a lot of up front capital to design and manufacture. ASICs also only really matter when prices are low and performance/watt matters. There's also limited supply too. The popular gpu algorithm is ethereum, who's

I did this kind of calculation during the 2017 bubble. It mostly depends on the future price of the cryptocurrency. From my calculations mining was less risk for less reward compared to purchasing the crypto directly.

A chip that is good at general parallel computing is a good as an ethereum mining. A chip thst is good at ethereum mining doesn't necessarily have to be good at general parallel computing. ASICs are ASICs, application specific.

That wouldn't solve the fundamental issue of supply and demand during a mining craze. Mining crazes appear quickly and dissappear quickly leaving little opportunity for the much slower silicon pipeline to catch up. The demand for crypt

It seems that most people have forgotten what it was like at the end of the mining craze and GPUs were plentiful, or that they've tried this tactic before (without the aggressive artificial restrictions).

It's easy to forget that the impact of mining comes in waves - most gamers weren't complaining when the market became saturated by seccond hand GPUs at the end of the mining craze. At the end of the day GPUs are a luxury.

From a miner's perspective there's little incentive (in cost difference) to get a mining specific card that doesn't hold its value when the mining craze is over compared to a general card which can be sold on the seccond hand
