Regardless of what C is or isn't "supposed" to be, it's not close to assembler. It's an abstract machine, and one that is fundamentally different than actual machines today. It would do well for people to remember t

List is an access pattern, like a queue or deque. Linked lists are a data representation using a couple of pointers. It's like the difference between a graph and an adjacency list or matrix. A list being a linked list is an implementat

I'm looking for a subtle way to give my coworkers a chuckle without being too distracting, I think it'd be funny to take a picture of my current background and then change it every day but I can't think of a decent way to do

In a company the size of Amazon, no one gets fired without paperwork, and termination has a process. Someone initiated that process and made the decision to follow a policy. I don't know what the policy is explicitly or if it's ju

Why would you want to create a workplace without personal responsibility for decision making? All I'm saying is to make that personal responsibility public. It's pretty telling to me that I'm being downvoted for saying that I

Without getting into all of the hazards about legislating morality it's impractical in our current climate. I don't think this should be illegal, personally. I do think that it would be helpful to make the decision making public t

I don't know if I agree. Overflow is like uninitialized memory, it's a bug almost 100% of the time, and cases where it is tolerated or intended to occur are the exception. I'd rather have a special type with defined behavior.

Another problem is that there's no way to define it, because in that example the "proper" way to overflow is with saturating arithmetic, and in other cases the "proper" overflow is to wrap. Even on CPUs/DSPs th

There's no reasonable way to tell if something is solicited or not, mail is not duplex, and it's not on demand. Most mail I get that matters was not explicitly requested to begin with. As well, most ads I get in the mail look like

Perfectly good time to quote Rhinoceros > Logician: Here is an example of a syllogism. The cat has four paws. Isidore and Fricot both have four paws. Therefore Isidore and Fricot are cats. > Old Gentleman: My dog has got four paws.

Rust's expressiveness of complexity is mirrored by its complexity of expression. I don't think that Ok-Wrapping hides complexity. I think it's a filled in pothole for sum type semantics in Rust. I don't think the best so
