Amazon won't be pushed into supporting more government surveillance, they will be paid to do it. That's one purpose of these lucrative contracts that traditional defense contractors can't fulfill.

JEDI has been headline news on CNBC for the last year. DARPA has numerous highly public initiatives and partnerships with SV darlings. Working with the DoD is almost never a secret, it just isn't sexy. The government didn't create

That's essentially how a jet engine works but replacing the combustion chambers with electric heaters - and it sounds really expensive in terms of power consumption. An alternative is a kind of plasma propulsion engine called a VASIMR

I think the only way to do that (in principle) would be to make an electric jet engine and power it wirelessly, which becomes less efficient and powerful the further from the transmitting array and thinner the atmosphere before replacing th

I guess it's not clear cut if this comes down to whether or not vertical integration is beneficial to consumers in this case. The courts aren't going to decide this case based on who is fighting for "the little guy" but

This just cements my belief that the abstraction presented by system allocators is insufficient for modern applications. This shouldn't be done (or necessary) in userspace.

I dont think it would help at all for compiled languages actually. The reason that they distribute source instead of binaries is mostly due to feature flags and conditional compilation. Seems a bit off track too. WASM is a very lossy compil

I'm no constitutional scholar but I don't think the IRS is constitutionally prohibited from sending me a filled out tax form and asking me if it's correct.

It's the wrong question too. Why do we have to file a tax return at all? Shouldn't the government be filing a tax return with us instead? Same answer of course.

It's a normal and rational human emotion to feel anger or annoyance at differential treatment for no fault of your own, whether that boils over as "resentment" is a function of your own emotional maturity in my opinion. But t

I'd argue it's significantly more complex because you don't have access to the C++ AST, templates are ultimately non-hygienic macros, their results are invisible to both developer and user, and potential errors are inscrutabl

No one disputes that meta programming is useful. What is disputed is C++ templates being a "good" way to meta program. I certainly understand metaprogramming, but navigating very dense C++ templates is one of the most complicated
