Something with quickly fluctuating value may be useful for trading goods, but very poor for paying wages IN OUR CURRENT ECONOMIC MODEL. Borrowing in a deflating currency is very difficult, as your future earnings are likely to decrease in n

Monster.com and the company website usually have a bunch of job listings for the older companies. If you want to work at IBM, Intel, Comcast, Microsoft, Oracle, HP, etc. it isn't hard to find job listings. I'm not sure if if posting on HN

Hah, no doubt. Not sure if it's good or bad each "I just learned vim" article has some random command I'm totally unfamiliar with I can't believe I haven't used. Obviously I'm just a vim user, not a power user.

Interesting. I don't work for quite so sexy a company as Apple, and positions aren't going to get you working on much hot new tech, so I'm not sure I'd post "we're hiring". I assume most people here have no desire to work at boring old co

You generally don't get taxed for holding personal goods, except real estate, at least in the US. I'm not a tax specialist, but it seems likely you would only get taxed on bitcoin transactions, ie: if you sell bitcoins for U.S. $ you would

Getting a latte at a small coffe place that actually puts effort into it is like night and day vs. the big chains. There are quite a few shops around Portland, but I still end up hitting Starbucks at times because it's everywhere and easy

You're assuming I don't ever use one of the other IDE's. I've used Eclipse on occasion (currently using it somewhat on Android development as a debugger) and I have to open up Visual Studio at work on occasion. Neither is better for me tha

I rarely refactor across entire projects, but I'm fairly certain vim has plugins that can do that. As for finding what calling methods there are, as other have stated, you can use ctags, or go full throttle with Cscope - http://cscope.sour

Not sure how you can accept Bitcoins as a payment form, unless you tie it expressly to another currency. With this much fluctuation, the only other option would be an auction. I think this makes it likely speculation is the only driving fo

It would probably be beyond my abilities and knowledge to really write about the banking system fully. I would note, even the US has a long list of banks on the endangered list: http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2013/03/unofficial-problem.

There seems to be some confusion as to what a bank is on this board. Every time you deposit say $1 with a bank, they lend out $.90 of it at interest for mortgages, payrolls, etc. It's these investments the bank makes that can (and do) wrec

You would lend out your bitcoins at interest, just like you do with any other currency. Unless you want to be a direct lender, you'd still use a bank. Maybe the EU's policies led to the propagation of all the bad assets, but Cypriot banks
