I never particularly liked the modern methods of "deconstruction" in the humanities. It gets geeky very fast, yet there's nothing solid underneath. Unlike code, you're only talking about symbols -- whose power lie solely in their ability to

The change between 1.1 and 1.2 was much more disruptive than the change between 1.2 and 2.0. The biggest changes are in reworking the RESTful controllers and cutting down the cruft. 2.0 is more polished and shinier now. The 2.0 release ma

Yeah. There was a discussion about it in an earlier thread. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it anymore. If you look at the code, the session store is stored in plaintext with the hash. Rails rehashes the plaintext in the cookie and che

This is a really good idea. I remember reading about an university professor assigning a paper that had to be published on Wikipedia. I don't think the professor made the students track the changes though.

Being used to a life of consumer goods, 'caveat venditor', and hordes of ambulance chasers, maybe each passing generation forgets how to practice 'caveat emptor'. It's probably called 'critical thinking' in the educational circles. A lot of

That was how I've always seen Ruby and Python. I've tried Python before and didn't like it. It had nothing to do with any technical reasons and was purely aesthetics. The article's main point is that Ruby is supposed to make you feel good.
