Unless the web crawlers are intentionally spoofing their user agent to identify as browsers, I don't think that they are counted.

Everyone who received the spam should pastebin the emails along with the header and share them for comparison. If those spam messages are found to be similar then it can be pinpointed that they all have originated from the same person/group

I have also seen automated accounts being operated by bots similar to those twitter bots who follow you and unfollow you if you don't start following them within specified amount of time. Example: https://github.com/gitlisted?tab=activity

Yes, that is true. I think most of the people here do not condone breaking into other people's systems and harming them. Rather the community inspires curiosity and seek of knowledge. But the manifesto is very relevant to the case of Aaron.
