I was critical of an earlier edition ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2362741 ) so thought it only right to say Google has done a far better job making a high-quality magazine website with this one.

This is illustrative of a fundamental misunderstanding among a lot of programmers about what 'front-end' means. 'Front-end' doesn't mean the colour scheme of the website. It means the features which are exposed to users, the mechanism in wh

I don't see the problem with this. They host your photos for free and they want to try to make some money out of it. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

According to Chrome, I'm running the latest stable build (11.0.696.65). I've asked others via Twitter and not everyone is suffering from this problem but some people are http://blogote.com/2011/gaming/angry-birds-doesnt-work-mac.h... .

Great example of how much better magazines generally look printed as opposed to put online. The 'physical' copy of the magazine is inviting with attention clearly lavished on each page. The website, although nice, puts the text into a tiny

Whenever anyone talks about the problems that beset Microsoft it seems almost a universal consensus that it's political infighting/poor management. An honest question, though: is some of it the tools and/or engineers? I've never worked in a

Translation: Look, the VCs are expecting a payout at some point and the only way we've worked out for making money is through ads. Now that's not going to fly if people can just get some sort of 'ad free' client from you guys. Our hands are

Are you sure? He refers to the iPad 2 and then the iPad 3. In this follow up post ( http://daringfireball.net/2011/02/the_next_six_months ) he refers to the iPad 3 as potentially shipping in Fall 2012.

I think the problem that I (and presumably the others in this thread) had with your point was two-fold: 1) your tone and choice of language implied entitlement; 2) if not a defence of piracy, did not add a great deal to the conversation. So

I'm not overly familiar with the law in the United States, but in Australia recent court decisions strongly suggest that it will be more difficult to prove copyright subsists in a database. See particularly the decision in Telstra Corporati

Probably not. While the Droid mark is a distinct trade mark, it seems to me that Google would have a compelling argument that calling a non-Android Droid would lead to confusion amongst consumers. Additionally, although unlikely, it may be

It's long-term good in the sense that it means your freedom to produce video that other people can play back is no longer at the convenience of others. At present, you can do most of the things you do because the people that control the int
