I should mention that exoscale is based in Switzerland and thus PRISM/ACTA free and is an IAAS provider (as opposed to a VPS provider).

http://www.exoscale.ch has a very similar approach to digital ocean: very quick provisionning, extensive API and automation tool support

In my case at the previous company it was rather simple. The language known to the team didn't fit the bill. So after a trial period we decided on one.

The authors had previous knowledge of chef. But the aim is not exactly the same. I have used the three, and the fact that pallet is essentially a library helps factor your infrastructure in your application, and thus goes beyond the ability
