Good point, I am always surprise when well funded startups hire former big-tech engineers, rather than experienced startup engineers.

This would be useful, but (IANAL) it seems to me that in the US, startups are not allowed to raise funds on public forums? ("general solicitation")

Thanks for owning up to this. We all know the internet and HN are full of chancers, but it's still very helpful to see what crafty, well-written BS actually looks like. And let's hope all this does not stop you from commenting her

It may well be that ARM could pay better if they wanted to. But the culture in Cambridge, and the UK, has been to pay engineers pretty poorly. So perhaps they don't yet understand that they need to. Also, salary inversion within the co

Right on. There are many companies who interview candidates, but have little to no intention to hire. They are very difficult to recognize, as their job adverts and websites look exactly like all the others.

As an anectode, I spoke with a Turk who found Turks living in Germny much more conservative than people in Turkey. Not to mention Brits who moved to Spain because there were "too many bloody immigrants" at home.

Indeed. In fact, following OP's logic gets absurd really fast : "Dean and Ghemawat would have been twice as productive if they'd worked each on their own! What a waste for the world !"

The new reality is that UK companies will never be able to hire SW engineers as cheaply as they were able to in the last 15 years.

This. I've learned it's best to masquerade as a committed specialist in order to get a job. OTOH, saying "I'm going to do whatever is needed to help your company succeed" isn't great marketing.

Agreed, the most vexing thing about this is that DDG is now promoting the exact same tutorial sites that Google is : Geekforgeeks, etc What's the point in having different search engines if they copy each other's search results?
