It's interesting that one can take away radically different things from a technical career. For instance, at around the same age, I much prefer pair programming ; try to avoid remote work ; have little time for drawn-out technical disc

This. Pichai doesn't need to cut the perks/ travel expenses and freeze hiring. He just wants to. It's a weird power play.

I can't speak for AWS ; my experience is at a much smaller company, where the DevX team was mostly busy with enforcing coding standards and other uniform "best practices" upon other teams. OTOH if your build system needs a lo

What do people think of DevX groups in general? I'm not sold, but in my (only n=1) experience, it'd be best to try to address the cultural problems that led to the perceived need for DevX. For instance : if build times are really

I think I particularly like this film because it is a highly structured story around feelings that can be illogical. The Green Ray is an improvised film, so the polar opposite in a way!

Put it that way. I pay you $100k to work in a fast-moving environment, or $130k to work in a bureaucratic environment. Which do you choose ? (it's worse in a company as it's the shareholders who earn +30%, not you)

IME, The managers who believe this tend to hide too much information from their team. The team doesn't have enough context as a result, and is in the dark re. what's really expected of them by higher-ups.

Unfortunately, I think perhaps might have come to a different conclusion if you'd tried Racket's so-called "hygienic" macros in anger. I've found them difficult to properly understand, not very usable in practice, a
