Why would montrose be pg ? The correlation is not that high. Looks like a few people have picked up pg's mannerisms.

Directionally agree, even though blaming "SJWs" is silly. Not the main factor, but there are also questions to ask of the VC/investor ecosystem. Even YC, who seem to be funding fewer "AirBNBs", despite being so much

The vibe I get from Amazon Devices is that all the innovation and drive came directly from Bezos. Not much tends to happen after he loses interest (or worse, retires). The Kindle is another example of this situation.

Are people downvoting you because they think it's untrue ; or because they don't like to hear it ?

Are EAs now patting themselves in the back for all the altruism that came before them? That's weird but on-brand. "We are responsible for all altruism, wherever it happened in space or time!"

Oh my, I need to update my understanding of CE markings if it's like this in this instance. This is going to be complete chaos.

What's the political situation ? It may well be that some execs further up the chain don't really want your team to be hiring ? That would explain the friction.

So, I think this new legislation might be bad, as the distinction between a component vs a finished product is a lot less clear in software, and particularly open-source projects. I'm not sure the lawmakers will consider this carefully

No, CE markings are normally for finished products, not components. (in many cases the software is a component). Most open sourced projects are not user-facing finished software products.

This layoff almost sounds like an opportunistic decision, rather than something that was planned long in advance.

For whatever reason, it's only in recent years that distros have switched to using Wayland by default. So it's a bit early to completely drop the former display system. But it would be expensive to keep it alive as well !

Apparently the root cause of this hack in the kernel is : "nobody wanting to maintain X11 anymore". Is X11 becoming yet another underfunded cornerstone of the open source ecosystem?

The question is : why did these companies hire massively in the pandemic era ? It was clear that cautiousness was the best policy. Not in hindsight, but even at the time. Did tech CEOs suffer from a kind of mass hallucination?
