What the example shows is that specializing string operations for known inputs can be faster than not doing so. Surprise! But going from this to "PyPy is faster than C" seems quite a stretch, no?

Nice article, although I'd fear a "Project for a New Perl Century". If there were an International Criminal Court for Programmer Rights, Perl should be the first language tried for crimes against programmerdom.

No. Missing emails from friends and acquaintances would get noticed (and therefore people would look in their spam boxes). Missing emails from strangers could be disappearing regularly without anyone noticing.
