The "naysayers" as you say, bring up a lot of valid points that have nothing to do with the OUYA's ability to raise kickstarter money so this will probably not silence anyone. If anything, the money raised only proves the fact that over 60k

What's great about game tutorials (imho) is that they are really motivating for young people to follow when they learn to program. You get some very interactive and sensory feedback, get to have fun with something you made and learn a ton

It would be great if people stopped seeing native and web games as mutually exclusive. I'm a huge fan of native games and all the oomph they can dish out. Of course we're not going to see AAA titles in the browser any time soon and of cou

There is something to be done here by combining this with a Kinect or by by finding a way to point a camera at where the user is looking and going the Augmented Reality way. I have to admit I'm a little turned off by the way those big playe

That wasn't so hard to avoid the guaranteed s *storm that would obviously emerge from claiming one sex was smarter than the other. Also, taking discussions seriously is exactly the reason why I come to HN. I'm sure I'm not alone. That bei

Absolutely. On a related note, we seem to be a lot better and consistent at giving negative feedback. Encouraging positive feedback and giving more of it to young people as they grow up would probably go a long way.

Please do show us statistics though. I'm not saying you're wrong (I genuinely don't know) but you can't say other people don't have data to back their claims when you don't put any data forward yourself. Especially since you brought up th

While there's still a lot of stigma about men in some women related fields (ask male nurses), the issue in software is of larger scale than you imply. Try 1 female for 40 male programmers (That's about the ratio in both my internships, as w

While you make a point that it doesn't always have to do with harassment, your second argument is very weak. There's nothing anyone but yourself can do about "[...] a person's perception of herself and what people might be thinking, not th

While I agree with your point, I believe "projects with 'random' (assigned) partners" to be a bad idea as far as encouraging social interactions. From my experience, no one enjoys being randomly assigned a partner (at least in high school)

Probably because it's really hard/time and resource consuming/tricky to do what ReactOS is doing. By allowing Steam to Linux, they open a new and easy market for developers distributing games through Steam, where developing ReactOS would o

I accept your premise but respectfully reject your conclusion. However, my stance might have a lot to do with the way I personally use the internet. There's a few points here that I make sure I follow: 1. Whatever activity I have online is

Thanks for the link, this is very interesting. Although by transmitting any personal information (email address, etc) through a supposedly anonymous network you kind of limit the benefit of said network.

You're absolutely right, that's one of my fears as well. That's up for another debate, but there's a point where legislation shouldn't interfere. If we're stuck with awful service because of the law, it's time the law (which should be serv

So you're telling me it would be reprehensible if I said "big boobs" aloud, out of context, in my workplace cafeteria (because that's what this is, "big boobs", said out of any context)? Talk about overreaction.
