Reading through this comment chain and seeing all the plausible speculations about how these guys' banking info are monitored for red flags.. a) Why are we not mad about that kinda thing? b) Doesn't the law of large numbers say th

The hardware here is more referring to tangible, physical things rather than computer hardware.

This is awesome. Putting some perspective into this conversation with experience! Definitely learned plenty.

Yeah, incidentally I also have no idea how people in my field are suppose to get hands on experience at home.

I think this is the best summary I've heard over software vs traditional engineering to date.

Absolutely. Best experience of being in engineering thus far. However that is still quite limited given what we learn.

I once heard a friend of mine who complain that engineers are too disconnected from their work. They would design the thing but never once go and actually checkout the physical products that they designed. I wonder if including things like

Now that I think about it... do we ever predict failures in software? Things just seem to break.. and we go in and fix it after. At least that is my impression.

I think you're oversimplifying the problem. When I do programming stuff, a large fraction of the time is spent debugging because my program crashed. I cannot afford my hardware project "crashing" as that may permanently damag

I always wanted to make rockets. Learning of programming does not change that for me :) The lack of funding however... :\

OP here. While I agree with what you say, I just don't know how this can be changed. It takes substantially more resources to do anything in mech. Sometimes you can't even lift the stuff you're working with without some other

This may be true, but I'm not sure how they are biased (what factors? Are these men more likely to be married because they're willing to go through such a study? More likely to not..).

It definitely is not a big sample size. However, considering that 200 people participated in the study for this many years.. I would say it is a big sample size just in terms of practicality (how many people would agree to participate in th

Ever since I bought a Wacom tablet to take notes.. all of these apps do not beat xournal. Granted I cannot use it to take notes on my phone, I don't really need it as I can only take good notes with my Wacom tablet anyway.

Octave is awesome. MATLAB can go die in a fire (purely for the reason of being non-free, otherwise it's great too). If there's one thing that Octave is absolutely better than MATLAB is the alternative syntax for things like string

My question for AV is... what's the actual detection rate for viruses and malware? As far as I understand, most of AV detection is still based around hash matching. Someone should correct me if I am wrong, though.

All of these sounds like reasonable steps. Right now it's more like. Hey I have thing that I will use with some people.. but it looks like I could potentially monetize off of it. I just don't know where to even go find potential c
