Correlation/causation question there. It is very plausible that people already in categories you consider weird are choosing diet soda because they agree with you and are trying to avoid making the issue more severe.

When I make comments about other people, they need to grow thicker skin. When other people attack me personally, it's a deep and dangerous violation of social norms.

Contra some other responses, I do think that was the intended design. However, I think it was a bad design, because it forces the desired behavior, rather than encouraging it. Stick the charge port on the side, so that it's awkw

One difference is that Twitter actively promotes trending topics in the sidebar, so it's as if someone noticed that multiple people in the town square were shouting about the same thing and circulated it throughout the town, not just t

My point wasn't that people fled federated email to congregate at gmail. My point was that most people don't care one wet slap about federation, and will happily use whatever people point as easily usable (and free), whether Hotma

And a huge percentage of people consume the web via centralized, non-federated platforms like Facebook! When the federation is invisible, people aren't bothered, but Mastodon hardly makes it invisible.

People talk about email as the prime example of federation that we all use every day, but... gmail.com alone has a 30% market share, and 61% of 18-29 year olds[0]. The only reason that number isn't much higher is work emails, and a goo

Yes, indeed, every group under 50% is a minority group. In the scenario you outline, the group with 49% is the plurality, but no group has the majority, therefore all groups are minority groups.

That is, in fact, what "minority" means. When there is no 51%+ group, the largest group is a plurality. We do have words for these things.

I happen to believe that my current movie and tv collection already use sane and consistent filenames. Certainly they're sane enough for Plex (and most are set by the Scene). If you're suggesting a directory per movie, we disagree

I can't, because--and this is key--Spotify refuses to implement IAP! To implement IAP would drastically undermine their case, eliminating huge swathes of the linked page. Yes, it's dumb that they're not allowed to link to the

"IAP is easy and simple and secure and well-known, and should be used." Is that better? I will never use a purchase method on iOS that isn't IAP. Never, and I'm not alone.
