I love how every comment here is about the Atari ST instead of what the post is about, which is where the 069H byte check actually came from.

Why does it sound wrong? Since strings are UTF-8, this just boils down to lexicographical ordering of code points. Ironically though, that should be actually more objectionable than ordering arrays by lexicographical order of elements, beca

Better work ethic + lower hubris in the work force. American fabs source heavily from a pool of people with a background in the US military. The intent is that it yields a certain caliber (positive connotation) of worker. What they get i

I had basically the same experience. I even got requests for functionality that was already there, as if the maintainers didn't even read or test the patch. There are a number of pull requests of mine that have been waiting open for ye

The point isn’t that anyone would want to write code like this. It’s to define rules that establish what the language implementation is allowed to assume about pointers when performing optimisations, and consequently, what operations code i

Names of types usually refer to individual members thereof: number, integer, vector, string, list… A variable of a UnitInterval type would one that holds unit intervals. This is no fix.

I like that the top-voted answer is a wrong one. (A unit interval is the set [0, 1], whereas the asker wants to know a name for an element of it.)

Stop intentionally ignoring the thrust of the argument. Let's agree that Stallman does have to draw a line. Let's also acknowledge that Zoom is included on this side of the line.
