I imagine viticulture techniques have changed too. France is surely more stable than many places, they place huge value on traditional techniques, but fertilizer, trellis technique, yields could all evolve. Not that this disproves the data

There were use cases with gp2 where one would over provision capacity to get IOPS. gp3 let you just dial up IOPS which was much cheaper than over provisioning. This may seem a corner case, but it was moderately common. Also AWS should cut

I mean, there is no right and wrong answer I suppose. You can have all the code for your project in one file. Forget a class per file or whatever, maybe it works for you. What I saw is that the more you co-locate in an AWS account or Azur

Yeah the tiered pricing makes Azure super complex. Azure App Services is crazy. The problem there is there are technical differences too, so it's very hard to sort out what you need. Storage is more complex too. While AWS has lots o

Resource groups seems awesome, and are nice in some ways, but they are sort of this slippery slope that encourage you to put more into a single subscription than you probably should.

This is massive. I can't imagine how often we guess at what's going on today, where knowing for real will result in better outcomes. As an amateur wine maker, this would be magic, it's very difficult to measure alcohol concen

Long term we need a lot more energy globally than we have today. Think like 2x USA per capita total energy consumption, but all as electricity. Take that model global, and we need a lot more electricity.

Yes, moved from SF North Bay / wine country to Buffalo NY to be closer to extended family, lower cost of living. I miss wine country, but it's been a good move. My company is based in EST so it's easier. I worry a bit about

There are likely real hardware limits on consumer oriented Internet access gear. Some Googling suggests they may hardware accelerate NAT and I'm sure there are limits on the number of NAT entries that fit in the Broadcom memory. ONTs

you use a lot more water than oil, maybe 100x? I think 100 gallons / person / day is not crazy for water, and I hope you don't use that much oil, maybe a gallon a day?

IP theft or not, the entire tech company was hit very hard around that time. Telecom was especially hard hit. Nortel was hardly unique. Disclosure: I'm in that business, work for Ciena which now owns one if the remainders of Nortel.

My old job 401K was shifting into the new job 401K, so for a week or so my $ was in a check in the mail between companies, and I think I missed like 2% gain. It's semi real $. It's annoying.
