I'm always amazed by how long video game credits got over the years.

Really nice article! I'm not sure about the poster though. This is not necessarily communist, as this was just the style of propaganda posters of all kinds, that came up in the first half of the 20th century. Personally, it reminds me

If your application only uses one database in production, you probably don't want to use an ORM, because that might prevent you from using all of your db’s features.

Those ascii art headers don't look correct on my phone. I'm using Firefox on Android, so that might only affect a limited group of people. But I think it should just be working with a <pre> tag and a monospace font, right?

I fully agree. The stock market is just a giant machine that pulls money out of systems.

You call it a trick for performant animation, but I couldn't think of any other way to implement something like this. What would a naive implementation look like?

In case anyone is interested in what Volkswagen did exactly in "Dieselgate", I can recommend this talk at the Chaos Communication Congress 2015, that does a technical deep dive: https://media.ccc.de/v/32c3-733

It really amazes me how tech companies like Spotify manage to disrupt an entire industry, but fail to find a sustainable business model that makes them profitable. This is far from sustainable and it makes the world worse. There really shou

And that's the USP of JetBrains IDEs. You don't have to spend days to configure your editor/IDE until it works for you. Just pick the right flavor for your favorite language and start working on your actual code.

How long does it take to figure out there's a problem with your environment and react to the failure? That's likely more than a minute. And spinning up a new VM typically takes longer than a minute. Even on cloud providers.

That's basically the same strategy Windows is using to keep you there with WSL.

Your expectations are too high. There might be outcomes where it's hard to tell, but that's already present today. There also will be many more areas where AI's outcomes will be subpar and it will stay this way for a few year

You were probably thinking of Windows-1252, which is an extension of ISO-8859-1 that supports more European character sets.

YAML is all but human-friendly. It has far too many special features and edge cases for most people. Something simple like Java properties files would solve something like markdown front matter perfectly fine.

In my experience, newspapers (and other media) are really bad at using hyperlinks. They don't really use them other than a bot linking a few keywords here and there to their internal category pages.

I absolutely agree. I was also very disappointed by the many far-right statements and symbols I saw on signs. Sure, it might not have been the majority, but I can't understand how you're able to join these protests if you don'

There are not that many farmers, though, and tractors are relatively slow. If you consider that, the impact of those protests was quite high.

I can't tell which browsers or UI libraries do this, but do you know those date pickers that try to maintain a valid date with every keypress? It's such a horrible user experience if you try to type a date by hand.

I'd agree if only we had more time to solve the upcoming challenges. But currently it looks like no one's going to be strong enough to do the right things. Four years are a lot of (wasted) time in the short period we have left.
