I have just happened to read it. While I find the technical parts of navigation of Nainoa Thompson and Mau Piailug highly interesting, large parts of the book are concerned with Hawaiian or Polynesian identity. Would you have a suggestion f

I totally agree with you. I bought his book on writing a compiler (t3x language) and although the code and text could be more educationally structured, it certainly conveys how easy it can be to implement a simple compiler.

It amuses me that this passed the editor and the peer review process: "So, from De Rosa’s manuscript we understand just why manuscript MS408 is so dominated by female issues, activities and adventures and why so few images of men appea

I think this is highly interesting, but while reading the comments here, I think one should be very careful about the actual content of the paper. It is deriving results about the (phenomenological) master equation. It has been some time si

Well, I think you guessed the reasoning already correctly: The use cases of kdb+ all are so much concerned with performance, that it even matters if the whole binary fits in the CPU cache. That's certainly the reason why the GUI stuff

Think about it as an extension to e.g. K/Q's strengths. What if you would like to visualise certain aspects of quote/trade data? It could take a very long time to process the data in Python and it is difficult to visualise da

I agree that the official K documentation was/is thin (after the K2 manual). But if you are interested in it, John Earnest wrote a nice documentation: https://github.com/JohnEarnest/ok/tree/gh-pages/

The mentioned gitlab repo doesn't seem to exist anymore. One would have to download kdb+ from kx, but I am not sure if this wouldn't be K4 only. Alternatively, one could play with oK (K6) which would also give you the nice graphic

My experience with this is that it is not the necessarily the language that makes it too complex, but the lack of training in proper software development. I have got mainly colleagues who were trained as economists, actuaries or mathematici

IIRC J didn't use intrinsics until maybe two years ago. They used mostly C and everything was built with for-loops. Some special verbs or phrases were however implemented in x86 assembly.
