For a Show HN, you need to have something other people can try right now - take a look at https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html

Why do you think that? Both of these articles look flagged to me and I don't see any moderator commentary in them. Also, even if they were unflagged, they are clearly never going to be on the front page. I can't see any evidence t

“It’s tech” is not in itself a golden ticket to HN ontopicness. Both of your links are effective dupes (by HN’s long established dupery rules) - they have had multiple recent discussions. Both are also repeat flamewar topics. This is about

Sure, but the reason that question is being raised is so that we can decide for ourselves how good your evidence is - both conceptually and concretely. It certainly doesn't mean you have to share it but it makes the discussion actual

Because repetitive flamewars make the rest of HN flamey and worse, and enough of it can burn the whole place down - this is a thing that happens to forums and HN is explicitly built around the premise of fending that off for as long as poss

There is way too much being flagged as a downvote versus as a flag. What's the evidence for this? That users are flagging regular news stories?

You can send an email and ask for an exception to be made. 'YC built the flagging' feels like somewhat non-responsive sophistry to me - users are rejecting these stories because HN is is not a current affairs forum. I don't t

I can't really relate to the mindset of people who use downvoting as a 'I disagree' button. That's a valid use of the button by design, HN is literally made to allow for that use. Plus it mimics real life interactions

Requiring justification for flags would immediately crud up threads with meta-debates. That is true and I used to say it but the receipts people evade it with non-public receipts (which can maybe later somehow be audited). So I'm swi

Yeah, that's the 'receipts for everything' idea and if you think it through, you'll realize it's at a minimum impractical and more likely just an outright bad idea. Where are these 'reasons' going to go? W
