Sure, it is useful. Maybe have a "string to [Char]" function in the stdlib?

I find it unfortunate how many languages treat strings as lists of chars for no clear benefit. This issue is apparent in dynamically typed languages where a function might expect either a string or a sequence, and now it all has to come do

Yes, but site specific and so that I can adjust it on the fly. Sometimes I read in poor light and posture, needing larger text, sometimes I go for default sizes. Just like scaling on the fly but for the minimum font size. It's like Fir

I'm so happy to see where desktop linux is at this point. Ubuntu never has failed on me for the last 5 years. Tools like LibreOffice are good enough and they're bad only because WYSIWYG document editing itself is bad. At office

The only thing unique to Firefox that I really miss about in other browsers is the ability to zoom text only and leave images untouched. It will break layouts but I prefer my pictures crisp. I wish any other browser implemented it but no su

At least on Firefox you can remove the color emoji font from the installation and you're left with BW symbols.

The trouble with small spaces is that they cost unproportionally much to rent. I could probably fit my home life in a 80 sqft apartment but when they rent for much more than 1/10th of a 800 sqft apartment, it's very hard to justif

The craziest example I saw was a blog post titled something like "How I used big data to analyse my problem" and she was talking about 1200 rows. Big data that could fit in a floppy disk! Buzzwords are hell of a drug

My workplace Windows 10 Pro doesn't support it either. I use cygwin and VM's so I haven't bothered to ask our IT about it.

Tests and TDD are different things. I view TDD as a workaround for a lack of a REPL. When the code is finished, the tests can be written or polished but writing them before any code is just one variation of testing.

The schools for and against anaphoric syntax constructs are pretty divided 50-50. "It" is certainly better than scala's underscore.

My hunch says that in order to be anywhere usable, any extra arithmetic must be done inside curly brackets, much like in Perl or PHP. It makes sense and is easy to parse for both human and compiler. println("foo ${oneInch.cm()} ba

Reverse mortgages are a thing in Finland: "sell" your house to the bank/insurance company and receive extra monthly money. When you kick the bucket, the house is the bank's.

You are right. The culture matters a lot. Maybe I'd tolerate French theaters better than I tolerate American or Finnish theaters.

Complete opposite for me. Theaters are full of people who react audibly at the wrong things, chatter, phones... I loathe all that and won't see movies on theaters on that principle. I don't have any urges to check phone, imdb or a
