It’s not about the raw time wasted, but more about the interruption. When people are concentrating on some creative task, having this one-minute gap between “hello” and actual-question can really break one’s “flow”. Much better for the ques

I mentioned fi.co/fast as an example of an advisor agreement, rather than endorsing its exact recommendations. I should've been more clear on that. Many of the points you raise sound very reasonable. Thanks for sharing them!

Good job on getting a product going! Having a solid advisory team that inspires you and motivates you through the ups and downs of a startup is very important. This individual will hopefully help you stay focused along the way. A common cus

I think designing for static types changes the design of a library’s api. So, in this case, Pandas would likely have to evolve ( handwave ) in some fashion, if it were to support Mypy types. One way Mypy could help do this is by implementin

What does Cambridge Analytica prove about FB the company? An academic from Cambridge made an app on the FB platform. That gave him access to data which he then sold for commercial purposes. When FB found out, they sent a legal notice to del

thanks, this was a very helpful comment. As an engineer-founder trying to build a first prototype app, i've been conscious about not diving into building too fast, trying to get some of the design right upfront. This has meant doing us

you are correct. The EVMs have definitely helped in this regard. That said, threat models keep evolving. As EVMs are now used, one needs to incorporate EVM manipulation in the threat model as well. The way to stay ahead of these threat mode

yeah, agree with you on arsenal sizes going down. As much as I would like nuclear weapons gone, I don't see it as being done to a satisfactory level that assuages India's concerns. I don't think anyone has made a real commitm

it's worth understanding why India doesn't sign the non-proliferation treaty. The treaty essentially states that only 5 countries (US, UK, France, China, Russia) can have nuclear weapons. India says this is discriminatory: either

Hack layered a sane type system on the existing runtime, but the changes above are all about runtime logic. These type coercions lead to many subtle bugs in PHP programs. What this demonstrates is that one can have a much safer programming

A lot of the narrative on HN seems to be that PHP7 has adopted most of the benefits of HHVM (performance) and Hack (typehints). If you read this blog post closely, you will notice several interesting points in the Future Changes, which hint

I fear you are conflating two things: Hack is the language (type system, syntax) while HHVM is the runtime (which can run Hack code, and could PHP until very recently). Your answer on the speed pertains to HHVM.
