Bash is the tool that’s already there; that is always a real good reason to use it. Dotnet is a pig with its dependencies by comparison.

I find writing really calms my brain and forces me to straighten my thoughts out. Even if I never review the notes it’s a big benefit.

Indeed, I did a lot of it during those years as well; introduced so many friends to it. What a time to be alive.

(Luckily?) With c++ your build will nearly always take longer then the configuration step.

There is no reason to use a union unless you're doing some C stuff; in which case just use C.

Ah this was my case! Was trying to constexpr a uint8_t ptr to char * in a constexpr constructor for a string class. Ah that’s what bitcast is for, neat!

Try consteval , constexpr is a hint. No static casts allowed in constexpr scopes that evaluate as constexpr in c++17 and above (works in c11). Could be wrong I am no expert…

That’s super cool; c++ is always the sharpest tool in the drawer (and by virtue the funnest!).. It’s too bad you still can’t cast a char to a uint8_t though in a constexpr expression.

I’ve had nothing but 100% uptime with a complete installation of Zwave switches at my house. They act like normal switches but can be controlled with anything that can talk Zwave; in this case home assistant. Runs off the grid, works great!

Exactly; there is so much to do that playing games feels like wasted time.. and time is getting shorter every day

Sounds like what we use with vcpkg to define the systems tooling; still trying to make sense of it all these years later, but we define things like x64-Linux-static to imply target architecture platform and linkage style to runtime.

Unfortunately all that crap eventually comes back. Microsoft likes to reset settings… I’m pretty sure I must’ve spent the majority of my youth setting the same explorer settings over and over and over again … And it never ends with any cust

Make is quite a bit more headache these days to consume then make (in modern code bases anyway).
