I try to read them. I think it’s harder than it should be. I think it’s weird UI to use eye strain as a disincentive to read something controversial.

The technology that made my jaw hit the floor hardest was the Super NES, running Mario World. Mine eyes did fall upon it suddenly, at a mall kiosk, when I was 14. I was so used to NES graphics, my brain could not fully process the color dep

I’m not sure how to think about it philosophically. Reminds me of the anthropic principle. But as a graphics / game programmer I am elated to have lived through the evolution from monochrome to 4K TrueColor. And beyond? Still unclear o

Seems like Americans have less and less in common, especially in ways adjacent to patriotism, all of the time. Much has been written about anti-intellectualism in these circles, where most of us have distinguished ourselves from the rabble

If you really want to get to know your fellow church goers, you’ll have a hard time passing as an atheist for long. Sooner or later you’ll be asked to lead a prayer, give ‘testimony’ to when you ‘got saved’, be tested on your working knowle

I have no problem diving into a new code base on a new team with a style that’s unfamiliar. I absolutely do not want to switch styles as I work on the same project. I don’t much care what the style is. Successful implementations I’ve seen i

Yeah this is the one point I don’t get. I’m not sure what “stress over it” means here. I don’t know why I’d stress over it. I’d stress over having indeterminate and mixed styles. Strict style greatly lowers mental overhead, particularly on

How low level? I don’t know how to design silicon or write in hardware languages. I don’t fully understand how to write drivers, even if I understand a lot of the concepts. I abhor web UI and server side business logic. I adore user interac

We used to do this in middle school. That was 30 years ago. We used to do it a lot. You stumble around on autopilot talking gibberish. The world looks like that shadow world Frodo goes to when he puts the ring on. Then you come to on the gr

I have mixed thoughts about this. An upside is that you can accomplish things that surprise you, that you probably wouldn’t otherwise experience. But if it leads to knocking your head against a wall, it’s probably not the way to go.
