I’m puzzled as to who is acting when id Software, under Zenimax Media, under Microsoft, takes legal action.

I can apply any character voice I can imagine to the inner voice. The default that I "hear" most of the time isn't even my voice - the timbre is a bit lower and more neutral, and it lacks my distinctive vocal affectations. Bu

Do you not consider introspection a base level feature? I think the point of these aphantasia-related discussions is that people make wrong assumptions about what is base-level.

Meta can buy fresh blood. Oculus was acquired. Parts of Oculus were acquired and acquihired. If a smaller company innovates in this space, acquisition by Meta is an obvious business plan. Zuckerberg is a geek almost young enough to be my ki

For modern-ish examples of very smart optimization-minded programmers still having to work to fit exceptional experiences into hardware limitations, I recommend Jonathan Blow’s talk about fitting Braid’s time rewind system onto the XBox, Na

Factorio’s visuals may be merely “nice”, but Factorio running a megabase in real time is pretty mind blowing, logically.

Rightly or wrongly, the big players believe the way is to have more whales playing. However, I agree with you that Fortnite is the gold standard of how to do freemium.

Absolutely true. It’s Fortnite’s DNA, and you would hear wailing in the streets out your window the day they broke that promise.

I believe most if not all of it would have boiled down to data collection rules for kids. Some of that may have been specific to schools. The extent of those rules meant you could not simply bring the app into compliance without destroying

It isn’t only grass roots amateurs who fail at this. Once upon a time, there was a medium sized org in a galaxy sized company, that set out to make a Moodle/Blackboard-like, but for all ages, and “cool” (like they knew what that was).

If it makes you feel any better, I have pseudo-audible inner voices with no self-detectable subvocalization; but it’s never unbidden, and they never, ever seem like someone else talking, even when I’m role-playing the other side of a dialog

When I read normally, I hear it in real time. There’s a “default” voice, or I can make it a character voice at will. If I want to read a lot faster, I switch the voice off. I seldom do that.
