Does Google pull links from Gmail and attempt to index them? I am wondering how they knew to index these pages with random URLs (the "security through obscurity" employed by ClickBank and defended in the support ticket referenced

"Land of Lisp" is actually what turned me on to PG/HN/startups a few years ago. I believe there was a passing mention of PG somewhere near the beginning and that got me started reading essays. I am very excited for this

I use perl for this as well. perl -e 'chdir "/var/session" or die; opendir D, "."; while ($f = readdir D) { unlink $f }' It is very efficient memory-wise compared to the other options as well as being much faster. It is also ea

I believe his "—or geekishness, if you prefer—" is referring only to "intellectualism", a way of broadening the scope rather than redefining "geek".

I actually just watched those back episodes of Top Gear two days ago. I thought they conveyed most of the things said by your parent fairly well. They expressed extreme disgust with the gearbox, demonstrating clearly how non-functional it

I am glad to see that this is getting proper attention, probably enough for Kiera's life not to be totally ruined by it. The exact same punishment was given to me for doing the same thing in 2004: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=56372

That is what happened in my case: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5637272 There wasn't a news article about me so I don't have to worry about being Googled. I do feel bad for the girl because of that. However, so far employers have f

This EXACT same thing happened to me. I had some liquid Nitrogen for a science experiment at school, put it in a 20oz Coke bottle. Of course that's not something you do without knowing mostly what will happen, as I suspect was also the case
