We're conditioned to worship. In the church, to a vengeful God. To our brave warriors for being warriors. To our protectors for keeping us in our place. To our owners, for being so wonderful that God blessed them with their w

At least voting has opened up to the general public. The pity there is that misinformation, tribalism, and ignorance does not make for a well-informed voter, and that problem is just getting worse.

Aside from the change in the economic landscape, there's also the fact that they wrote it with the elite in mind (white male property owners), so they already had complete control.

I'm all for making organizations more efficient in their operations but that requires that their operations be for the common good. It would not surprise me if a use case of this is to refine their files on "political subversives&

I agree wholeheartedly. There's an innate tension between "freedom of speech" and "weaponized misinformation". I think Karl Popper’s "paradox of tolerance" needs to be front and center in this discussion -

No worries! We just install our own oil wells and refineries for energy independence to take advantage of those sweet federal subsidies that have shifted back to fossil fuels.

I was commenting about "cyberlibertarianism" -- which is actively embraced and promoted by SV technocrats. Yarvin very much is a public figure in this area, but it's not about him specifically, it's the Web3 gang that wa

What? No mention of Web3? Hacks like Curtis Yarvin proclaim that code wranglers have solved all the problems and should be running the show because they made money flipping shiny shit to gullible buyers. Where is Web3 in solving all our p

SF has a famously broken city government. As does Portland (the metro I now live in). Note they have huge budgets for their police and there's still plenty of crime -- does that mean they should give up on having police? I think if it

That wouldn't be enough to do the job but it would be a great start if it was done right. My point was we've flushed $50B (and likely far far more) and what do we get for it? High gas prices. So hurray for the push for renewables

Why are you singling out immigrants? The homeless in our metro area are very much domestically produced. But you do help illustrate a concern: homelessness is ultimately a federal issue, as some states dump theirs on other more "accept
