Read early Philip K Dick. Lots of female homemakers and male breadwinners, and other 50s mores. Flying robot taxis, but the lady of the house wears a pinafore. It hasn't aged well. Culture warriors are people with a dogmatic attitude t

Powershell is closer to FP than OOP. What people mean is that it supports structured data. Powershell is not true FP, but, if you stretch terminology: - the unit of feature delivery is the function - you can pass functions as values (but it

If you have abandoned deep shafts, they may be smaller in volume than an open pit, but they have several hundred metres of head, so every kilogram of water is much more effective than in schemes with less head.

Yes, and... I'm concerned that interviewing may perform worse than random. The worst co-worker I had in tech, the interviewer said "in my defense, he gave a great interview". I'm not suggesting we stop interviewing. Anyo

"Software stack" is doing a lot of work there. Are you shaking a stick at Microsoft's entire product offering? Microsoft deserves criticism, but not all of the criticism it gets. This is a long comment already, so I'll o

That is a great feature. You can have those semantics in .net, because any hashable can be a dictionary key. It will have a small performance penalty, which won't matter in 99% of cases. You could roll your own collection and get O(1).

I've come out of a job of spaghetti and idiots. My team lead used to shoot down ideas if they were "too complex". Correct and wise, right? Except that this numskull created reams of functions that took untyped python dictiona

Mate. The shit that a retail ISP will send to the punters. Adjust your expectations sharply downward. The reason this crap ends up in botnets is because it suits retail ISPs to have a common password for their own access. I've found t

That's not a thing in the UK. The bulk of tenancies here are ASTs, which make most sense over a period of a few years (rather than decades). Our society is predicated on buying your own home while you're young, so a culture of ten

The biggest downside would be the date rolling over during a record-keeping period. But this is already a problem and people handle it just fine. I mean, we say "tonight" for 02:30 on the following day, so meh.

GMT is a time zone used in Britain. It is no more special than any other. The standard is UTC. If engineers were in charge, there would be no time zones. Brits would get up at 08:00, Indians at 04:00, and Americans at 12:00/13:00/
