Apple rewrote Preview.app post-Mavericks and crippled it in the process; text box placement definitely lost functionality

I used to use Preview.app extensively for work until it was rewritten & hobbled post-Mavericks. While it's still useful it lost a lot of functionality i.e. "smart" text insertion.

We're talking "out of the box" here, and while I'm not a fan of a lot of the UI changes in macOS it still "just works". Linux doesn't i.e. the wifi on my laptop dies after sleep & the only "fix&qu

I tried KDE and had different but equally frustrating issues. People say you can "just fix it yourself" with Linux but that's not always feasible or worth a person's time.

Funny. Coming from macOS to Linux Mint, I find I can make many of the same or similar arguments but against Linux. The UI is inconsistent, esp. wrt the menu bar. Keyboard shortcuts are inconsistent across different apps. macOS remembers win

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people only consider their own experiences as relevant "btrfs is not stable" is coming from people for whom btrfs has not been stable. Why is that so hard to understand?

Both my wife and I had 2011 MBPs that were only replaced last year. I upgraded the RAM & replaced the HDDs with SSDs over the years, which is reasonable imo. I'd say 10 years is a pretty good run for a laptop. YMMV

If x86-64 is "open" why are Intel and AMD the only manufacturers..? The answer: it isn't open, it's proprietary. Check out x86 history, it's kinda interesting.

OS X/macOS used to have some serious issues with exFAT but they may have been addressed in the few years since I last used exFAT on a Mac. Something to double-check before using the pair to store critical data.
